Elder Kennis Hutchons was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost, June 2, 1945 under the leadership of the late Bishop C. J. Johnson, Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ.
He served faithfully in the church in many capacities including: President of Johnson Temple Adult Choir, Piano Player, Chairman of the Trustee board, Sunday school teacher, President of the Young People Willing Workers (YPWW).
Pastor Hutchons served as the President of the Northeast Michigan State Music Department for seventeen years. He served on the Platform Committee, the Screening Committee and the Ordination Board.
Elder Hutchons started to prepare for the work of the ministry, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit. He began pursuing a formal education and bible training from the following institutes:
- William Tyndale College, (Techniques in Counseling);
- Birmingham Bible Institute, (The Greek Language);
- Word of Faith Laymen's Bible School; (Fundamentals of Bible Truths) for two years;
- as well as Word of Faith School of Ministry, for two years earning a Degree in Systematic Theology.
Pastor Kennis Hutchons, Sr. was noted for his dynamic Bible teaching ministry. He was married to Evangelist Irma L. Hutchons. Together, they raised five children: Missionary Shirley A. Smith, Mrs. Gloria Bosworth, Evangelist Charlene Ellison, Mrs. Evelyn Chambers, and Mr. Kennis Hutchons, Jr. They were grandparents to 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
